I’ve been wondering why the 1 Pesewa coin denomination among the Ghanaian currency has not been patronized ever since it was introduced and put in circulation. Today, i just want to talk about the 1 Pesewa coin. I think the general Ghanaian public has given the 1 Pesewa coin no recognition especially in the market.

I think Ghana has not been fair with the 1 Pesewa coin because it has gained no recognition in the market. It is only accepted in the banks and few shopping centers like the Accra Mall, A &C Mall and few Shopping Malls in the country. Whiles all the exiting currencies are accepted in all forms of transactions in the country, 1 pesewa ( 1GP ) happens to be facing rejections in most forms of transaction in the country and my question is ” WHY SHOULD IT BE SO”?

Personally i have over 20 pieces of the 1 Pesewa coin which makes 20 Pesewas. Now, 20 Pesewas can be added to 80 Pesewas; making 1 Cedi, the price of a bottled water but i can not spend except i get to any of the Big Shopping Malls in the country or perharps get it to a bank.

Looking at the different coins above, each have got a different design which symbolizes Ghanaian heritage and traditions. So now, would you bear with me if i should say disregarding the 1 Pesewa coin literally means we are discarding a part of Ghana’s Tradition and Heritage?

I think Something should be done or Bank of Ghana should stop wasting money in producing 1 PESEWA COIN among Ghanaian currency.
