Pakistan has lodged an official complaint with the United Nations, demanding the removal of Indian actress Priyanka Chopra as a UN goodwill ambassador over her “support for war” amid heightened tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbours.

In a letter to the UNICEF chief Henrietta Fore, Pakistan’s human rights minister Shireen Mazari accused the 37-year-old actress and former Miss World of publicly endorsing the position of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Hindu nationalist government in Indian-administered Kashmir.

Earlier this month, the Indian government revoked the partial autonomy of the Muslim-majority region and imposed an unprecedented security lockdown and communications blackout, saying it feared protests.

“Her jingoism and support for violations by the Modi government of international conventions and UN Security Council resolutions on Kashmir, as well as support for war, including a nuclear war, undermines the credibility of the UN position to which she been elevated,” Mazari said in the letter shared on her Twitter account on Wednesday. “Unless she is removed immediately, the very idea of a UN goodwill ambassador for peace becomes a mockery globally,” the letter added.

The Duchess of Sussex’s old TV show Suits has made a cheeky quip about her new role as a royal. Meghan shot to fame as lawyer Rachel Zane in the hit US legal drama, starring from its launch in 2011 until her final episode in 2018.

Rachel’s on-screen husband Mike Ross, played by Patrick J Adams, also left, but returned for an episode of the new series and was asked how she’s doing.  “If I told you how good, you probably wouldn’t believe me,” he replied.

Ebola may soon be a “preventable and treatable” disease after a trial of two drugs showed significantly improved survival rates, scientists have said. Four drugs were trialled on patients in the Democratic Republic of Congo, where there is a major outbreak of the virus.

More than 90% of infected people can survive if treated early with the most effective drugs, the research showed. The drugs will now be used to treat all patients with the disease in DR Congo, according to health officials. The US National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), which co-sponsored the trial, said the results are “very good news” for the fight against Ebola.

The survival rate among patients with low levels of the virus in their blood was as high as 94% when they were given REGN-EB3, and 89% when on mAb114, the agency said. The findings mean health authorities can “stress to people that more than 90% of people survive” if they are treated early, said Sabue Mulangu, an infectious-disease researcher who worked on the trial.

Some of Africa’s biggest music stars look set for success on a global scale having been handpicked by US singer Beyoncé to appear on her Lion King-inspired album.

While Nigerian stars like Wizkid and Burna Boy have already broken through to the mainstream in the UK and US, their collaboration with the superstar in The Lion King: The Gift is bound to give their careers a bigger boost.

The 14-track companion piece to the Disney film is filled with sounds akin to music currently rocking the continent. Beyoncé, who curated and produced the project, has called it a “love letter to Africa”.  “I wanted to make sure we found the best talent from Africa, and not just use some of the sound or my own interpretation of it,” she told ABC News.

“I wanted it to be authentic to what is beautiful about the music in Africa.”

    Dilution or a new direction?

From lyrics in English, Swahili, Pidgin English, Zulu, Xhosa and Yoruba, the project incorporates several genres from Afrobeats, pop, R&B, hip-hop, and the South African version of house music known as Gqom.

“A lot of the drums, chants, all of these incredible new sounds mixed with some of the producers from America, we’ve kind of created our own genre”, Beyoncé told ABC.

African acts featured include Nigeria’s Tekno, Yemi Alade, Mr Eazi and Tiwa Savage, as well as Cameroon’s Salatiel, and South Africa’s Busiswa and Moonchild Sanelly. Several African producers also have credits on the album.

_107978961_africanartistsonbeyonce'salbum.jpgAlade said some artists claim to want to pay homage to their roots but are “all talk and no action”. This is not true of Beyoncé, she told the BBC. “For someone of that calibre to dedicate time and effort to Africa, it goes to show our worth,” she added.

  • 7466640_f520.jpgNot all abusive relationships involve physical violence. Just because you’re not battered and bruised doesn’t mean you’re not being abused. Many men and women suffer from emotional abuse, which is no less destructive. Unfortunately, emotional abuse is often minimized or overlooked—even by the person experiencing it. The aim of emotional abuse is to chip away at your feelings of self-worth and independence—leaving you feeling that there’s no way out of the relationship, or that without your abusive partner, you have nothing. Emotional abuse includes verbal abuse such as yelling, name-calling, blaming, and shaming. Isolation, intimidation, and controlling behavior are also forms of emotional abuse.

    Emotional-abuse-Main-pic.jpg

Abusers who use emotional or psychological abuse often throw in threats of physical violence or other repercussions if you don’t do as they want.

www.sheblogsrealty.wordpress.comThe scars of emotional abuse are very real and they run deep. You may think that physical abuse is far worse than emotional abuse, since physical violence can send you to the hospital and leave you with physical wounds. But emotional abuse can be just as damaging—sometimes even more so.
