  • images.jpgWhen people think of domestic abuse, they often focus on domestic violence. But domestic abuse includes any attempt by one person in an intimate relationship or marriage to dominate and control the other. Domestic violence and abuse are used for one purpose and one purpose only: to gain and maintain total control over you. An abuser doesn’t “play fair.” An abuser uses fear, guilt, shame, and intimidation to wear you down and keep you under their thumb.womancrying.jpgDomestic violence and abuse can happen to anyone; it does not discriminate. Abuse happens within heterosexual relationships and in same-sex partnerships. It occurs within all age ranges, ethnic backgrounds, and economic levels. And while women are more often victimized, men also experience abuse—especially verbal and emotional. The bottom line is that abusive behavior is never acceptable, whether from a man, woman, teenager, or an older adult. You deserve to feel valued, respected, and safe

escaping-abusive-relationship.pngDomestic abuse often escalates from threats and verbal assault to violence. And while physical injury may pose the most obvious danger, the emotional and psychological consequences of domestic abuse are also severe. Emotionally abusive relationships can destroy your self-worth, lead to anxiety and depression, and make you feel helpless and alone. No one should have to endure this kind of pain—and your first step to breaking free is recognizing that your relationship is abusive.

The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources, Nelson Akatey, has admitted authoring a letter apologizing to an Adom FM’s intern on behalf of his Minister, Cecilia Abena Dapaah, without her knowledge.

The said apology letter which was purportedly issued on behalf of the Minister followed recent backlash from Ghanaians against her, for questioning the propriety of an intern to interview her, insisting that it was “disrespectful” to her office.

“You don’t respect…please go off,” the Minister is reported to have told Rahinatu Abdul Bach who is a student of the Ghana Institute of Journalism.

“We wish to apologize to the reporter and the media house for any inconvenience caused and hope we all continue to work more closely together,” the apology letter issued on Tuesday, July 23, 2019, said.

But Madam Abena Dapaah later speaking on Oman FM regarding the letter, denied apologizing to the intern.    ”She asked “what is there to apologise for?”

According to her, “the apology letter making round is fake and I intend filing a complaint with the National Media Commission against Multimedia Group.”

Meanwhile, after coming under pressure from some media houses that published stories based on the letter, Mr. Akatey apologized, saying he authored the letter looking at the trends of the comments that were emanating from the saga without the Minister’s knowledge.

17849283.jpgSpeaking in Parliament, Hon. Asiemah expressed disappointment that although the Black Stars team went to the tournament with determination and all the support they needed, the team performed below expectation. He made the assertion before parliament today.

The Blackstars’ exit from AFCON 2019 was one of the unpleasant memories for football fanatics in the country. Ghana lost to Tunisia at the round of 16 of the game.

Issues of coaching deficiencies were one of reasons most supporters believed caused the team’s early exit.

Meanwhile,  Ghanaians have called for the sack of head coach of the Black Stars Kwesi Appiah.

According to Wendy Shay, if one place will not accept your kind gestures and a good heart you move on to find a better place where you will be accepted. Meaning Ghanaians have refused to accept her despite all that she is doing to impress Ghanaians so she has moved back to Germany to continue her nursing profession.

“Baabi angye woa baabi b3gye wo…thank you God, thank you Ghana, thank you Bullet, thank you rufftown and thank you ShayGang #yesmadamnurse.”

In recent times, Ghanaian musicians and actors will do anything to trend in the media. It could most likely be that she made the post for hype.

The US government is introducing a new fast-track deportation process that will bypass immigration courts.

Under the new rules, migrants who cannot prove they have been in the US continuously for more than two years can be immediately deported. Until now, expedited deportations could only be applied to those detained near the border who had been in the US for less than two weeks.

Rights groups say hundreds of thousands of people could be affected. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) says it will challenge the policy in court. The new rule is expected to be implemented with immediate effect after it is published on Tuesday.

US immigration policy has come under increasing scrutiny in recent months – in particular, the conditions at the country’s detention centres on the southern border with Mexico.

Kevin McAleenan, acting secretary of Homeland Security, said the change would “help to alleviate some of the burden and capacity issues” at the border. He added that it was “a necessary response to the ongoing immigration crisis”.

Analysts say US President Donald Trump is planning to make hard-line immigration control a key element of his re-election campaign in 2020.

The government is pledging to end smoking in England by 2030 as part of a range of measures to tackle the causes of preventable ill health.

Promoting physical activity, developing guidelines on sleep and targeting those at risk of diabetes are also set out as priorities in the green paper. The policy document aims to reduce the number of years spent in poor health.

Currently men and women spend over a fifth of their lives in ill health – 19 years for women and 16 for men. Those in deprived areas experience the longest periods of poor health. The green paper, which will now be consulted on, proposes a number of ways of tackling this.

    They include:

    • Ensuring any smoker admitted to hospital automatically gets offered help to quit
    • Extending tooth brushing schemes in nurseries and primary schools
    • Reviewing the evidence on sleep and health with a view to developing clear national guidance on daily recommended hours of sleep
    • Encouraging “active play” such as skipping in nurseries and more travel by bike and on foot
    • Doubling funding for the diabetes prevention programme which targets lifestyle support to those most at risk of developing type 2 diabetes

The measures come on top of steps that have already been consulted on, including:

But the publication of the green paper was immediately criticized after it was slipped out just ahead of the announcement of a new prime minister on Tuesday.

Women who refuse their husbands sex could be charged for emotional abuse and when found guilty, jailed to a maximum of two years imprisonment or to a fine of 500 penalty units which is equivalent to GH¢6,000 or both.

Central Regional Coordinator of the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU), Mr George Appiah-Sakyi who made this known has therefore called on husbands to report their wives to the police for the law to deal with them.

According to him, the law is also applicable to men who may deny their wives sex encouraging such emotionally abused women to also lodge complaints with the police.

At a sensitization workshop for leaders of churches in the Cape Coast Metropolis on terrorism and other security issues, the police chief stated emphatically these violations are grounded in law and amount to emotional abuse punishable under the Domestic Violence Act 732 of 2007.

“If your husbands refuse to eat your food and make you unhappy and causes you emotional pain, you can also report them to the police. If your husband comes home late and causes you to be unhappy you can make a case at DOVSSU”

He also stated that women who refuse to give sex to their husbands should equally be reported.

“If your wife wears jeans to sleep and causing you emotional abuse it’s an offence and you can report her to DOVVSU,” he stated.

The Director for Reggae at the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), Kwesi Nyarko Ofei known in showbiz as Root Eye has asked Ghanaians to stop associating marijuana or ‘weed’ as it is popularly known in Ghana with reggae musicians.

“I don’t get it when Ghanaians associate reggae musicians with weed. It is so wrong for anyone to think that reggae musicians are weed smokers. The perception out there is that once you are a reggae musician then you definitely smoke.

“I know a lot of world class reggae musicians who do not smoke. The likes of Black Prophet, Lucky Dube and so many great reggae musicians do not smoke. This is a Ghanaian mentality which should be wiped away quickly,” he told Showbiz in an interview recently.

Root Eye advised reggae musicians to erase that perception by spreading the word that reggae music is not associated with weed. “It will start with the reggae musicians preaching the word and erase that notion of weed being associated with reggae musicians,” he said.

Talking about the challenges such a perception has brought the reggae fraternity, Root Eye said corporate bodies are not willing to sponsor reggae events. “I mostly draw a good plan and meet corporate bodies for a reggae concert but they always decline due to such perception. Although it will take a while to erase this it is better we start now.

“Smoking is an individual choice and I want to sound a warning to these young musicians doing reggae music that the fact that you sing in that genre does not mean you should smoke weed,” he stated. Root Eye added that reggae music is such a great genre which has been accepted worldwide and it is in the interest of Ghanaians to accept it.
